By comparison he said about MCU efforts: "I don’t think they’re cinema,” (New York Times November 4 articel). And in an interview: “I don’t see them. I tried; ... But that’s not cinema… Honestly, the closest I can think of them, ...is theme parks. It isn’t the cinema of human beings trying to convey emotional, psychological experiences to another human being." And the great FF Coppola confirmed "Martin was kind when he said it’s not cinema. He didn’t say it’s despicable, which I just say it is".
Thus, I think "fine" coming from Scorsesee will do perfectly fine for such a film. Thanks Martin for the marvelous clarifications! (just look at the sincere buttthurt and cognitive dissonance this causes to some here; envy is the most sincere form of compliment.)
And congrats JOKER for Globes nominations and win. DC wrote film history again.
Now, this is cinema!

I don't think he said the MCU, he said Marvel or was simply asked about Marvel, whatever, which then when you take into account the other things he says about the "Marvel" films such as they are pushing out films like his and other "smaller" movies, seems pretty clear he is not speaking of a single studio or franchise, the MCU releases 3 films per year, they take up residence in up to I believe 75% of domestic theatres for about 4 weeks, how is that pushing out smaller movies?
Keep in mind how even those who are solid fans of cbm's get confused over what is what, if they are not hardcore and net savvy fans that is, most casual fans don't know the difference between a Sony Marvel and a Disney Marvel movie or a Fox Marvel movie, and then there are those who just see all cbm's as one clump despite liking them, I have had conversations with people who will tell me they love those Marvel films, Iron Man, Avengers, Batman, Green Lantern...ok maybe not the last one but still, and Scorsese's criticism also apply to more than just CBM's he's clearly not a fan of blockbuster franchise movies, and that as a genre I guess is what he is referring to in his complaints about being boxed out of the theatres, as yeah blockbusters are now almost year round these days, and when you consider most blockbusters like the MCU films take up atleast a screen in 75% of theatres for a month each then yeah the influx of so many blockbusters does cause smaller films to be pushed out.
Then again Scorsese is also lying in some of those interviews, claiming that the big movies is why The Irishman had to go to Netflix because no studio would pay for it, which is a lie, he got $150m initially to fund the movie, he started to inflate the cost and he lost international and then domestic financing, he also was made offers by other studios who would give him a theatrical release but he took the money from Netflix instead, so take some of what Scorsese says with a grain of salt, because he was talking out of his butt a little.
Also Scorsese can say what he wants and is still deserving of respect for the work he continues to make, Coppola not so much, I mean for one what he said is fucking moronic, really making a movie you don't like is despicable? what if someone burns his fucking toast? also is he really one to talk? sure he did The Godfather, but he also did Jack does that make him despicable? I mean more so than the MCU, they as far as I know haven't employed a mass rapist like he did by working with Cosby
