dude, I originally watched them by numbers (I to VI), which was a huge mistake. By Ep III you become a fan of Palps and how he pushes all into darkness, and you want to see him bleed, and so you eagerly pop in IV - the heralded classic and masterpiece!!!- and
- Palps is not there! The dismanteling of the senate/Republic is only mentioned en passant... - all is dumbed down to a cheesy 70ies Space Western - Vader is there, but pathetically bickering and mocked by some mid level losers; he even tortures his daughter without noticing her looking and feeling like Padme (what about the Force downloaded, do you have to be a Mary Sue for that?) - Obi Wan becomes a pathological old liar (why), even letting Luke face Vader without telling the truth, same with Yoda (thanks convoluted OT twist writing) - Luke and Leia are lame, even flirting, and Obi says nothing when Luke gets the hots for hologram Leia (WTF!) - in the end Palps get defeated and outwitted by some teddy bears (no joke)
You must watch them chronologically first time, or you will not appreciate the OT as a narrative. Interesting perspective. Do you think Machete order (IV, V, I-III, VI) would mitigate this at all or no? i wonder then if rogue one would help this transition at all? would you mix it in? it would also not have the emperor but at least you would see more of what his empire has become and eventually darth vader acting cool for a few minutes. on a side note: i have made a rogue one/new hope edit and i have to say the transition from huge budget star wars film to the flimsy sets of the tantive iv is a bit disappointing. though i love a new hope so no real fuss.
