Michael McCarthy of FrontOfficeSports.com reports ESPN plans to offer CBS announcer and former Cowboys QB Tony Romo a deal that would make him the highest-paid sportscaster in history.
Per McCarthy, ESPN is prepared to offer Romo a seven-year deal with a salary in the range of $10-14 million annually, which would blow away the current high-water mark for NFL analysts currently held by Fox's Troy Aikman ($7.5 million). It would be an eye-popping sum, though Romo would be a clear upgrade on current Monday night color analyst Booger McFarland, who has struggled to say the least since joining the broadcast in 2018. Romo is due $4 million in the final year of his three-year contract with CBS, which is set to expire after this season.
