petrolino Thanks for the great post! History in the making. Can't wait to see the one for actresses -- if you plan to do one, that is. As for directors, my guy Kazan comes in at 5 nominations - not too bad given that he divided his time between stage and screen and more or less retired early. OT, I guess, but I couldn't resist looking it up just for my own information. Anyway, thanks again for the great post. (And I really would love to see one for actresses, too, if you feel so inclined.)  I think with actresses there's no big movers at the high end, though hats off to Kathy Bates, Renee Zellweger and young Saoirse Ronan on receiving their fourth Oscar nominations. Personally, I expect Zellweger to be a frontrunner come Oscar night, though somebody else might get hot before the ballots are all in.
And I've just been celebrating Scarlett Johansson's achievement on an open thread on Film General - she becomes only the 12th performer in history to be nominated twice in the same year, putting her in illustrious company to say the least. And as a fan, I'm delighted to see her being recognised by the Academy for the first (and second) time.
