To me it didn't seem like they had it THAT terrible. The complaint seemed to have been that they didn't have places to go and all that and did not develop any places where kids can hang out. Big deal. What did everybody do as a teenager? Played sports, We all hung out at school yards or somebody's house or a party and drank beer or smoked weed or whatever, just like these kids did. Not everybody is going to have an amusement park in their backyard nor did any of us need one. You make your own things to do and You hang out with your friends and make the best of it. That is an excellent point you have made and I suppose if one wants to be straight to the point, they were just spoiled teen brats with negligible first world issues. That said, I think under the layers of this facade, there is a statement being made about the youngsters of the era, and how perhaps they were feeling disenfranchised by the adults they are surrounded by. They were not being steered or guided with a deft hand by their parents, who were all caught up and self-absorbed in their own s<>t and the material aspects of their lives. They were leading spiritually impoverished lives, hence no substance within the cold and dreary suburban milieu. They forget what is important, and were dragging their kids down with them.
