The Vegas Golden Knights just fired head coach Gerald Gallant. This is beyond surprising. Let's review for a minute...... In their inaugural season, the guy coaches them to the Stanley Cup Finals, a first for any expansion team in any team sport. It's not the first time in the NHL, the St. Louis Blues make the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season, although that year (1968) an expansion team HAD to make the finals, as that was the year the league doubled from 6 to 12 teams and the 6 new teams were all in the same division. Yes, the Blues did get to the Finals as an expansion team, but as you said, those were weird circumstances. Vegas getting to the Finals was a more remarkable achievement.
