Agreed, Ultron has to be the most disappointing villain in the MCU to date. (I also thought GOTG could have done more with Ronan, but it wouldn't have fit the tone of that film.) He was killing it as a sinister threat in the trailers. That one shot of him turning back and looking toward the camera was better than any line of dialog. He just had a look of contempt that told you everything you needed to know. How can a robot show contempt?! Then the movie hits and he's apologizing for ripping off limbs, forgetting what children are called, etc. It just didn't work. He has his moments to be sure, but the character is too uneven to be taken seriously, which really takes away from the overall experience. He even makes jokes as he's getting his ass kicked at the end. Ultimately I think they wanted to breathe some life into him with a personality that separated him from Agent Smith from The Matrix or countless other 'killer AI' types throughout cinema history. They just took it too far in the comic relief direction when there was already an overabundance of it with the central characters. So in other words, you wanted the story to be all about the villain with the heroes as nothing more than reactors to him and you were PO'ed they didn't forget that the story is about the Avengers first and foremost? Who's pissed off? I wanted a villain worthy of Earth's Mightiest Heroes. I mean hell, I loved the movie regardless. I've said as much elsewhere in the thread, it's still in my MCU top five. The movie doesn't need to be about Ultron, he could have the same amount of screen time and spent it being sinister instead of sarcastic. Ultron was the most disappointing villain based on potential from the source material as far as I'm concerned.
