Yeah. Jim Plunkett was brought up. But Plunkett was a bust at two stops before the Raiders. He never had more than 3000 yards passing in a season. Even at his Raiders peak, he never started more than more than 10 games twice. Yeah a lot of that was the strange fascination the team had with Marc Wilson but all the more reason. You don't bench a HOF QB for Marc Wilson. The only real knocks on Eli is that he never really had jaw dropping numbers but he never played in a system than allowed him to put up jaw dropping numbers. And he wasn't as good as his brother. There definitely seems to be a double standard and bias toward the modern era, I doubt Plunkett or Tom Flores will ever get in. I actually thought of Flores, when they were congratulating Jimmy Johnson on TV.
