You also got the recently released Underwater (2020)... despite being a flop. True. That sat on the shelf for a couple of years, I believe. Not sure of Crawl had anything to do with the timing of that release, as it was likely scheduled a while ago, but maybe it had something to do with it getting a wide theatrical run instead of just being dumped on VOD or Amazon or something like those movies sometimes do. Either way, it didn't amount to much. I had no idea it was shelved for a period. Like Anonymous Andy mentioned, I would love to see this sort of studio produced creature-feature genre ignite again... but I guess ‘Underwater’ lack of success won't be a good endorsement for it. Still I’m a sucker for underwater horror, and in spite of its lacklustre ticket sales - it seems to have decent ratings/reviews. Probably check it out sometime next week.
