I watched Marooned finally last year.
Interesting to see him in the novice youth role and he ended up more famous than his fellow astronauts.
I remember this anecdote about him on a movie set. The Quick and the Dead or something...
He had to do a scene outside and he said he wanted to wear a hat because it was too hot, and the director said "no you don't wear a hat in this scene because.."..and Hackman replied: "which hat do you like better?"
His way of saying: I am going to wear a hat, you get to choose which one.
Also when Ben Stiller told him The Poseidon Adventure was a favorite and Hackman replied: "money job."
