I never was a "Trekkie" but I enjoyed the odd episode now and then. This new series is a vehicle for Sir Patrick Stewart who arguably played Enterprise's greatest commander. Here he is as Picard in retirement, when a young woman who is the synthetic daughter of old friend Data, gets him up off his arthritic backside to deal (again) with those pesky Romulans. Visually, it is mind-boggling, making "beam me up Scotty", something akin to letter-writing but the dialogue (in the first two episodes) is so full of technical jargon that the show is in danger of disappearing up its own arse. Seems more like a Starfleet on-line manual than a good old sci-fi yarn. Hopefully that will dissipate because what little action we have seen, looks good. As a fan of the Next Generation but completely bored by the series that followed, I'll wait until this is complete and then binge-watch.
