That's general. But different sects and churches go into more detail. Catholic doctrine states there is a place called Purgatory and a place called Limbo. That's quite literal. I know. And that's stupid. But --- stupid works with stupid people. And children. Stupid people and children are not mentally advanced enough to think conceptually. I don't think Thomas Aquinas and Saint Augustine were stupid people. Many intelligent people believe this stuff.
