I have too many favorites from that decade to whittle it down to 25, but I don't know if I rate any of them 10/10. Fair enough, that's just I did it. All my 10s and 9s made the cut, then I just went through my 8s to fill out the 25. As I said it was a little arbitrary, but its not like I have to live or die by this list. Even Blade Runner doesn't get a 10? The thing with Blade Runner (my favorite film, as you can guess from my avatar)… Which version are we talking here? The Director's Cut (my first introduction to the film) is superior to the original US theatrical cut, but the DC was released in 1992. My overall preference is the Final Cut which didn't exist until 2007. Technically Blade Runner was released in 1982, but despite being my favorite film, I wouldn't call the original cut a 10/10. The Final Cut for sure I'd give a 10/10, but it would be cheating to call it an 80s film. As far as the topic goes, I don't think I can sort through my 80s favorites and condense the list to 25. There are too many that I appreciate on a similar level. It's too hard to rank them. Encompassing all eras of film, I have a comprehensive list of 100+ favorite dramas, 100 actioners, 100 comedies and smaller lists of various genres such as horror, documentaries or Christmas. I tried ranking the dramas against each other once and I couldn't do it. I think I have a definitive top 5 ranked, and maybe a top 25 overall (unranked). It's splitting hairs to try to decide my 16th favorite film from the 17th. As you said, these lists are arbitrary and fluid; if you made the same list 10 times you'd probably have ten different lists depending on your mood. Still, the fun of making these lists is thinking about what you appreciate about the films, and to put effort into separating 21 from 22 is more than I'm willing to do at the moment. Assigning a ranking for the sake of it defeats the purpose of the exercise.
