Haven't been on one in ages, but always loved it as a kid.....but that was back during a different (more trusting) era (late 60's and early 70's). A friend of mine and I would jump on the bus from our suburban town, and head to downtown Milwaukee about a half-hour away, to spend the day......when I was between 9-12 years of age (not sure too many parents would be comfortable allowing that today, then again, the kids would probably expect mom or dad to drive them anyway, so I don't know that it would even be an issue anymore). There were a number of second-hand book/magazine stores there that I LOVED going to, to get my hands on comic books, which I was into in a HUGE way (by the time I started to lose interest in them a few years later, I had over 1,000 in my collection!). We'd do that, hit the MASSIVE Milwaukee Public Library on Wisconsin Avenue, The Moon Fun Shop (a "novelty" type store, with lots of things kids appreciate, like candy, crazy posters, magic tricks, 'gag gifts', etc.......kind of like a less 'fancy' forerunner to today's Spencer Gift shops), before grabbing some lunch, and then heading home about 4 or 5 hours later. And though we came across our share of strange people riding the bus on all those trips as kids, they never bothered us, and we never bothered them, and never had any other incidents, or (traffic) accidents on any of the buses we ever rode on. As far as coach (Greyhound-type) buses, I did ride them a number of times some years after, when visiting my high school chum at UW in Madison during our college days, but never had any odd or bad experiences during any of those trips. So, given that history, I would have absolutely NO qualms about jumping on a bus these days, if for some reason I ever needed to..... Wisconsin Avenue - Downtown Milwaukee (1970's) SAVE FERRIS
