I'd hate it, but the MRAs who think Captain Marvel is overpowered would love nothing better than to see her lose her powers. The laziest storytelling trope in superhero stories is having the hero lose their powers. "I don't know how to make this character interesting, guess I'll take away their powers." I think they should lower her power level. Not take them away. Make her just above Hulk and Thor. It looks awesome, but don't make her so tough that she can fly through a spaceship like it's wet paper. I say if they do the Avengers Annual story, they should half her power over to Rogue so neither is that strong.
This movie should have her in a coma through out the 2nd act. Do like a Venom thing with Carol fighting Rogue in her mind. Do something like a cross between the Xavier/Apocalypse fight and when Carol talks to the Supreme Intelligence. For this we'd need a good actress that can switch between Carol and Anna Marie to show when Carol takes over. Or they can just have Carol be around and only Rogue can see her. Like a ghost that can take over sometimes. That way she's on set and not just in a green screen room talking to Rogue. Make the actual villain Mystique and the Brotherhood. Make the conflict be that Rogue doesn't want to go against Mystique so Carol has to change her to being good so she can join the X-men...
But at the same time, doing that means that the Carol in a coma will not know that she turned Rogue. Because it's just a personality fragment in Rogue's head. Not a telepathic link.
