Limited anime series usually last 50 episodes or so. I don't know why this one lasted 26, but whatever the reason was, I'm relieved. I don't know how I would've been able to continue. I was bored out of my mind! The combination of elements from different genres (robots, angels and a medieval-type of setting) was very intriguing, but I didn't feel much was done with that. I mean, without this combination, specific scenes would've played out differently, but the overall story and character arcs would've probably been the same. The music is great (DANCE OF CURSE in particular has to be one of the best instrumental tracks I've ever heard!), but by the standards of 1996, nothing about the animation felt special. Having a furry character doesn't automatically ruin a show, but I don't like Merle (a half-cat girl) because A) Her childish personality makes her even more fanservice-y; and B) She's the only character like this. Everyone else looks like a normal human. OK, there's a half-mole man, but he's portrayed as disgusting. Hitomi (the protagonist) arrives to another planet with her P.E. uniform, then changes to her school uniform and wears that for the remainder of the series, but she already knew she'd go on adventures. Would the other outfit have been more comfortable? Is it a rule that teen protagonists in animes must dress like that? Can someone explain to me why, at the end of the title sequence, Hitomi is seen running towards what looks to be Heaven? That never happens in the series. I know the tip of a sword can be broken and get enough impulse to spin backwards, but how can that have enough strenght to kill the swordsman? Maybe a small cut, but not a complete stab, right? I read that they made a movie that just re-tells the whole series. I don't feel like watching it.
