Think runs per game may be up a bit this year because of this?
I mean - more offense/excitement is always good for the casual crowd.
The goal for the next decade, at least, will be shortening the duration of games. I don't even think baseball cares if they're 3-2 ballgames or 13-12. If kids can be in bed before 11pm, it's a plus. I agree they're concerned about the length of games but -
I think they'd like to see more offense too to draw in the casual viewer.
I enjoy a 1-0 pitching duel. I think the casual fan wants to see more offense though - better for ratings IMO.
I'm a big believer they doctored balls last year - and also a big believer they looked the other way during the McGwire/Sosa extravaganza years ago in regards to the steroid era.
