Said no DC fan about a DCEU movie ever. I like your posts here, but please, I implore you, don't respond to those two idiots.
What did you think about GOTG2?
I really like it as this different type of film than anything else in the MCU. It's much more of a character study, and I absolutely love that we're getting crazy things like EGO.
I enjoyed GotGv2 immensely. I think Gunn, more than any of the other Marvel director has perfected the art of turning big-budget movie spectacle into heartfelt love letters to the fans. He not only creates relatable characters, engaging plots and dizzying landscapes, he also builds worlds that feel like they've been around forever. For the faithful, his panoramas are pitted with homages, cameos, and landmarks from every corner of the Marvel Universe. That requires attention to detail and love for the material. GotGv2 is irreverent and deliberately weird, and I enjoy that sensibility. It's exciting, loud and colorful without being obnoxious or fatiguing. I honestly had very few complaints (most of them revolving around the actual nature of my beloved Celestials). I thought the character arcs were satisfying and I felt rewarded for following this quirky crew on this, their sophomore journey. Gunn's voice stands out even in a franchise that is well known for its humor and wit. Believe it or not, I was only a mild fan of the first outing. The cosmic corners of the Marvel Universe have always been as equally vexing to me as they can be thrilling. I love the warlike Kree but, the hedonistic Elders make little sense to me. I adore the xenophobic Skulls and the parasitic Dire Wraiths but, the needy Symbiotes and poorly-defined "Beyonders" can't hold my interest. Marvel's cosmic side is a mixed bag (even for true believers). That said, my expectations for v1 were basement-low. I was pleasantly surprised when it turned out to be an ultra-fun, thrill-ride that didn't mind planting its tongue firmly in cheek. I know I must be in the extreme minority here but, I actually liked v2 a little better than v1.
