One of my favorite nature/wilderness films, superbly directed by Carroll Ballard with wonderful cinematography Hiro Narita. A film full of the majesty and mystery of nature, it reminds us of how much a part of the natural world we humans are, and how much we can learn from it. The only Ballard film I like better is The Black Stallion (1979), and that for the first half when the boy and the horse are isolated alone together on the island. Definitely a strong recommendation from me for Never Cry Wolf. I think that is why I like Wolf better, because the entire film is set in the wilderness. Stallion is not the same film in the second half and I don’t care much for horse racing.
