It is not a very difficult role for him imo. He plays it as good as he possibly could, but it is very similar to performances he had given before that. Connery on the other hand gives one the best performances of his career in The Untouchables. It is the most charismatic performance he had given at that point in his career and he brings a fatherly wisdom to the part that he also had never shown before in quite the same way.
