This stone coffin is believed to have once housed the remains of Romulus, the founder of Rome.Quote from the article: " In Roman mythology, Romulus and brother Remus were left to die as babies in a basket on the River Tiber.
They survived and were taken in by a she-wolf, who nursed them back to health. Of course, the story is legend, and it's not clear whether Romulus or Remus ever existed." D'OH !! Thanks for posting, it's an interesting story.......just a bit confusing though, that on one hand they consider Romulus to be the "founder" of Rome, yet on the other hand, they're not even sure he ever existed..... SAVE FERRIS Most legends of these type have some basis in fact. In legend Romulus was the founder of Rome. If they've found his tomb and it can be verified that it is indeed Romulus's tomb, that seals the deal that he was a real historical character. However, we have to look at stories like this with some skepticism. The people involved are looking for publicity and funding.
