Phoenix is more technical acting where as Dicaprio has a stronger all around natural presence/charisma and for that reason Dicaprio is superior overall.
and... it never hurts Dicaprio has a better filmography to where as with Phoenix the only movie of his worth mentioning is Gladiator (2000) as nothing else he appeared in is even close to that one.
DiCaprio is a fine actor, but he's not in Phoenix's realm.
