Ursula Andress, the third of six children, was born in Ostermundigen in Bern, Switzerland. Her parents were German. Her mother, Anna, was a landscape gardener, and her father, Rolf, was a German diplomat. Rolf was expelled from Switzerland for political reasons. He disappeared during World War II.
Andress went to school in Bern and studied art in Paris. She relocated to Rome, where she became a nanny. She speaks several languages including French, German, Italian and English. Her nickname is Urs.
