For the smaller leagues, I wish the conference tournaments did not determine a school getting into the dance. You can still have the conference tournaments if you want, but give it to the team that actually won the conference over three months, not three days. Like I said, I'm a big supporter of the mid majors. I think a team should have a .500 conference record to be eligible for the NCAA. A team shouldn't be allowed to sleepwalk through January and February then expect a bid because they beat the dregs of a major conference. On the other hand, it's tough to see a mid major dominate the season then get the NIT because of one bad game. But this is beyond any reasonable discussion. My Grandmother's bridge club could be .500 in the Southland.
