1: Interesting. My family came from farm country so I always called them sowbugs, relating to sowing crops. Most people in California call them pillbugs or even "roly polies". 2. I know the correct term for them is earwigs. But people here always call them "pinchers" or "pincher bugs". Woodlice used to fascinate me when I was a kid. Mainly because they did this...  When I was three or four years old I loved those things. I had a little toy lunch pail where I collected them in the backyard. You should have heard my mother scream when she opened it.
