How about best three album run? U2 - I challenge you to find a better (musically or commercially) three album run in history than The Joshua Tree, Rattle and Hum, and Achtung Baby. You could argue any three consecutive Beatles albums, or any three Zep albums were as good, but I don't know that they were better. And of course by volume you could say the Beatles, Zep, or the Stones were better bands, that isn't what I'm arguing here. I just think that three album run is as good as it gets for rock music. Even the deep cuts are great. An argument can be made for Guns n Roses Appetite for Destruction, GNR Lies, and Use Your Illusion Double Album, but honestly I don't think Use Your Illusion was very good overall. And I mean hell, any of these bands I've mentioned, as well as the Doors, Van Halen, The Police, and probably 25 other bands have equally legendary greatest hits compilations. But again, for consecutive albums, those three U2 albums are at the top of the leaderboard for me. Also as an aside, I'd put the Beastie Boys Check Your Head, Ill Communication, and Hello Nasty up against any three albums in history, but that's hip hop/rock fusion and not universally beloved the way classic rock bands are. The two key words. It's all personal taste. personally, I thought Rattle and Hum was spotty, The only good G&R album was Illusion 2 and I'll keep my thoughts about the Beastie Boys to myself. Would I put up any of those to the three album run of the Beatles (Rubber Soul, Revolver, Sgt. Pepper) or the Stones (Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, and Exile on Main St.), noooooooooooo. And we all can use those two highlighted words here.
The Beastly Boys? Really? No, I promised...
