My Top 3 movies since the year 2000 (which are the only movies I gave a 10/10 (in no order)) are...
-Road to Perdition (2002) -Lord of War (2005) -Gran Torino (2008)
NOTE: that makes up half of my 10/10's in general as there are only six movies I gave a 10/10.
If I want to judge years from 2000-to-date strictly by Top 3 movies in a given year, then my elite years are...
1)2005 (Lord of War(10/10)/Angel-A(9/10)/The Matador(8/10)) -)2002 (Road to Perdition(10/10)/25th Hour(9/10)/S1m0ne(8/10)) 3)2008 (Gran Torino(10/10)/Felon(9/10)/Taken(7.5-8/10)) 4)2010 (The American(9/10)/True Grit(8-8.5/10)/Edge of Darkness(8/10))
Looking at 2000 to date my stand out years overall, especially in terms of depth, are...
1)2010 (The American(9/10)/True Grit(8-8.5/10)/Edge of Darkness(8/10)/The Book of Eli(7.5-8/10)/Unthinkable(7.5-8/10)/London Boulevard(7.5-8/10)/Machete(7/10)) 2)2006 (Running Scared(8/10)/Find Me Guilty(8/10)/Casino Royale(8/10)/The Departed(7.5-8/10)/Mission Impossible III(7.5-8/10)/Priceless(7/10)/Deja Vu(7/10)/Crank(6.5-7/10)) 3)2011 (Source Code(8/10)/The Descendants(8/10)/Young Adult(7.5-8/10)/Kill The Irishman(7.5-8/10)/Mission Impossible 4(7.5-8/10)/Drive(7/10)/Drive Angry(7/10)/Carnage(7/10)/Miss Bala(6-6.5/10))
NOTE: with the '2000 to date overall' ranking above I mainly chose years that have a solid balance between strong movies and depth before quality falls below a certain standard. because while some years have higher highs then what I listed above, they don't go nearly as deep before falling below the 7.5-8/10 standard etc.
NOTE: since the OP mentioned 2007, the only movies of that year worth mentioning for me are... 1)Mr Brooks(8/10) 2-3)Eastern Promises/He Was a Quiet Man(7/10) 4)American Gangster(6.5-7/10) 5)Interview(6-6.5/10).
NOTE: the 2000's decade (i.e. 2000-2009) is my #1 decade for movies straight up overall.
