Literary period films put many people off, because many can require a lot more concentration than your average popcorn flick. Like the best period films, the secret is in the sauce and the devil is in the details and the substance can taste exquisite. Remains Of The Day from the same year is just as fine and either of these films were worthy of Best Picture of 93', over Spielberg's over-rated and bland holocaust epic.
