could he have possibly eclipsed or surpassed Denzel had he not had personal issues and died? seemed like he had all the potential. It is possible, but I seriously doubt it. Howard Rollins was a very good actor, but he went to television instead of movies. For anyone wanting to see them both in one GREAT movie, please see A Soldier's Story / Norman Jewison (1984). While on that movie, also notice the great acting of Oscar nominee, Adolph Caesar. Great movie from top to bottom.. is an example of a movie filled with untapped potential, Caesar, Riley, Rollins Jr. all died before there careers could take off more. Caesar was an accomplished stage actor, but seemed like he could become an amazing character actor.
