We also got the Mets on WOR. Lindsey Nelson, Bob Nelson and Ralph Kiner. Kiner made Rizzuto look professional. Other than the current Yankee announcers, John Sterling and that shrilly creature Suzie Waldman, Kiner was the worst announcer. He referred to the Braves as the Boston Braves (not even Milwaukee!). A few other Kiner gems...
"Hi, welcome to Kiner's Korner. I'm ... ummm...ummm" "And it's Father's Day. To all you fathers listening, Happy Birthday" "All of his saves have come in relief appearances" "The mets have got their leadoff batter on base only once this inning" "Solo home runs usually occur with no one on base" (usually yet)
Not sure in Ralph was trying to be Yogi Berra or was eating too many lead paint chips
West Coast had their own Kiner - - Jerry Coleman. "There's someone warming up in the bullpen, but he's obscured by his number." "He slides into second with a stand up double." "Enos Cabell started out here with the Astros and before that he was with the Orioles." "He (Graig Nettles) leaped up to make one of those diving stops only he can make." "(Willie) McCovey swings and misses, and it's fouled back." "Rich Folkers is throwing up in the bullpen." "Gaylord Perry and Willie McCovey should know each other like a book. They've been ex-teammates for years now." Kiner began working for the Mets when Yogi Berra was coaching Coleman was a teammate of Berra
They both talked like Berra, who got some of it from Casey Stengel
