Avengers: Endgame, Lion King, Rise of Skywalker, Frozen 2, Joker, Captain Marvel, and Toy Story 4 all made over a billion dollars, so I highly doubt it Wasn’t 2019 seen as a bad year for movie theaters in North America? In American theaters perhaps, worldwide however theaters (particularly China) are becoming an increasing market. 9 of the 50 highest grossing movies of all time were from 2019 (more than any other year on the list). When adjusted for inflation "Avengers: endgame" is the 5th highest grossing movie. I think theaters are doing just fine.
