I might as well add this other anecdote I heard years ago.
So a storyboard artist went to a meeting with Gordon, and he mentioned he had done the storyboards for Predator.
Gordon said he had a theory what the movie was really about--you got this group of macho guys and no women who go off alone into the jungle. They encounter an alien that kicks their ass and "has certain feminine qualities, especially around the mouth. It is their worst nightmare."
The storyboard artist said he fell off his chair from laughing.
