The Thing and The Fly are often declared the best remakes, but those are really hardly remakes, aren't they? I don't think the word "re-imagining" was a thing back in the 1980's but that's what those movies are. Night of the Living Dead '90 is a straight remake and it's one of, if not the best one. It's the exact same story with the exact same characters and the exact same locations, but it's updated and made by someone who truly loves the original and fixes its few faults. It's not as iconic as the original movie, it's not as important to cinema, but it's arguably a better movie.
