Macmurray's character was a real dick for sure, but no way can you say Queeg wasn't a bad guy. Maybe in his mind and heart, he thought he was doing the right thing, but his actions were one of a pretty bad dude.

Queeg was miserable a**hole to be sure but his worst actions were those of a man that was headed for a mental breakdown and was being "gaslighted" by MacMurray.

MacMurray played the other officers like puppets. Queeg may have been paranoid but that doesn't mean no one was out to get him. MacMurray orchestrated the whole thing. Queeg even asked for help at one point and his officers turned their backs on him.
