'm an issue or two behind, but to be completely honest, I never thought "Wow, Luke needed a lightsaber to beat the Knights of Ren", I simply thought it was awesome. The fact that Luke had a lightsaber doesn't mean he'd be helpless without one. Of course, if you have one, you'd use it....
