5/10. It's ambitious but uneven. I don't hate the CGI, it looks fine for 2003 . But much of the movie is unexciting when it should be adventurous. Nick Nolte is fun as the villain and I stand by Sam Elliot's nuanced turn as Thunderbolt Ross as one of the great unsung casting choices ever. Eric Bana should had been good casting on paper but he's pretty bland. He fares better than Jennifer Connelly, but she does have her moments. The punker/prison escape, the tank fight and the San Francisco scenes are good action scenes. I actually think the final confrontation is the best scene in the movie. Less said about the mutant dog fight the better. Ang Lee being the director is such a weird choice for this kind of movie.
