Keep telling yourself that. You'd be mincemeat if you came over to one of our hospitals and told one of our nurses that. The hospitals in our region have no Corona patients. I, and no-one of my family, friends, or co-workers or whatever know of a single person who has or had it. And new articles report that up to 96% of all cases are unreported...and thus the death rate is those of a flu. A friend of mine had a neighbor who died of covid-19 last week. Another friend of mine had 2 family members die of covid-19, though they're over in Iran. This is anecdotal evidence and yes, they were older individuals, but the point is I'm two degrees away from covid deaths in multiple directions; and I don't know what knowing or not knowing anyone who has it proves. Is the media making the whole thing up? Perhaps this will provide some context. A local veteran's hospital in my area (a 277 bed facility) has had 31 confirmed covid-19 deaths. The staff is devastated to lose so many patients in such a short amount of time. If the same thing happens every flu season, why would they be any more devastated than any other flu season? How bad do you think it would be if we weren't following social distancing protocols? Think about it. All the measures we're taking worldwide to manage this thing, yet well over 100,000 have died in a matter of months. How many deaths would there be if we were all going to concerts, theme parks, restaurants and basketball games right now? How many deaths would it take for you to acknowledge this as a serious problem? You're comparing the numbers for covid-19 under social distancing guidelines to regular flu statistics (in which we make no attempt to slow the spread) and suggesting the regular flu is more deadly. It's a false comparison.
