I think they are so the next one can be the "13th". But to me there hasn't been a 11th yet. Freddy vs. Jason is technically part of the storyline, so I guess it is the 11th. F vs J is more welcome as a "sequel" to me than the remake but I can't help but think of it the way I see the 2 Alien vs Predator films, as a separate thing from the main series.
