That example was memorable to me because it was a larger cut than usual. Most syndicated Star Trek episodes have a number of small cuts, but in "Space Seed" they lopped off the first half the teaser. It's so strange. Some shows are edited at different places on the same episode on different channels. Is it because there are that many copies of the show out there that are already edited or do the stations themselves do all the editing? In the case of Star Trek there was a syndication package with standard cuts. The syndication cuts were detailed by Phil Farrand in his book The Nitpicker's Guide for Classic Trekkers.
