Ben-Hur is magnificent cinema that stands the test of time as one of the truly great historical epic classics. But from the moment I watched Planet of the Apes as a youngster it has kept me going back to it every year - genius casting of Chuck and genius writing.
Truth is, is Heston has a CV crammed with outstanding films, which makes a mockery of him supposedly being wooden. He was more than just being a presence, it's impossible to imagine anyone else playing some of those epic roles.
