It's a bit of a shame that they didn't try to craft a 2015 with as much care & credibility as they aced 1955 from all 3 movies. They treated 2015 like an amusement park.
Yeah, I thought it was silly and unbelievable even as a kid, and now that it's 2020, it obviously doesn't hold up much better. Of course, the end of the first movie probably didn't leave much room for a "grounded" version of the future. Though that does not explain Thomas F Wilson's performance as Griff.
Anyway:

So I basically find the movie better as it goes along.
