Generally, I give a documentary a 10/10 if the director's wife gave me good oral sex.
Kidding aside, if the subject matter becomes important, or is important, if it really touches my spirit, if it has some magic, it's 10/10. Usually, wildlife documentaries are the ones I like best. I suppose the most stunning and famous documentary right now is the one about Treadway, and that was fascinating, but honestly, the director inserted himself too much into the story, and cheapened it. I wouldn't have noticed it so much if it hadn't been for a TV special about Treadway that I saw prior to the documentary. The TV documentary was exceptional, mostly because the reporter was a reporter and didn't try to be part of the story.
Which is sad, because Herzog is a top notch director. He just made a mistake there.
The one documentary I gave 10/10 to was THE COMPANY OF WOLVES, which was mostly about the wolf family the humans got to know and live near, and how they became close to each other. It was very magical.
