I'm not a big fan of Denzel Washington - I find him quite a limited actor who comes across as smug most of the time - but he's certainly charismatic, and he is good in: A Soldier's Story, Malcolm X, Devil in a Blue Dress, Crimson Tide, Fences. Have you seen Glory, Cry Freedom, The Hurricane, Flight, For Queen and Country or Roman J. Israel Esq.? I agree he does basically the same thing in most of his action movies, but I think he is excellent in dramas.
