Nurse Ratched was one of the greatest characters and my #1 villain. Unlike Norman Bates, she wasn't bat shit crazy. Unlike Darth Vader, she wasn't willingly evil. And that's the greatness of the character. She truly thought she was helping the inmates. She truly thought her routines here helping her patients. We can all see she wasn't helping her patients, but she can't. In reality, Ratched should be pitied, not hated. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. I truly think she still believed she did nothing wrong, even at the end of the movie. My wife is an RN and she has known plenty of Nurse Ratched's in her day. What "the book" says, goes
