The Statement (2003) / Norman Jewison The is political thriller about a former Nazi sympathizer (Michael Cain) being hunted down my a group of Nazi hunters in France as he is trying to escape the country for South America (later in the movie changed to Canada). It's interesting to watch this movie in that we are taken in by both Cain and his hunters (Tilda Swinton and Jeremy Northam) and we find it hard to know who the protagonist(s) really are here. That is who are we rooting for as we watch. Michael Cain is still wonderful after all these years. As an American, I first became aware of Cain in Alfie (1966) and Alan Bates and Charlotte Rampling as young "lovers" in Georgy Girl (1966) while I was still in college. Wow, that ages me!!
