They were talking about this yesterday. Top 4 in each conference get a bye into the quarterfinal round and the next 8 play a best of 5 pre-quarter round. I would think a best of 3 would be better which is what the NHL wants but the players in the higher seeds are afraid that a lower seed's goalie could get hot and steal a 3 game series. I say too bad. #1 Tampa got swept last year so who's to say a 12 can't sweep a 5 whether it's in 2, 3 or even 4 games?
I was hoping for a progressing one and done style tournament with every team not officially eliminated from the playoffs pre-shutdown (i.e. everyone but Detroit) participating, starting at the bottom with 15 at 14, winner at 13, winner at 12, etc., until it's winner at 8 in a best of 3, then have the playoffs like normal. This'll give us some sports day to day while minimizing the total number of teams coming into contact with each other. The NBA could do the same thing with the 2 leagues taking turns playing games one day and the next.
