Strangely, a lot of the traditional Catholic, Latin Mass types...where the only Mass is the Latin, no women allowed behind the communion rail kind...do not follow or believe their current cult leader is legit. Apparently, their belief that God divinely chooses the Pope stops when that Pope does not agree with their politics. God just screwed the pooch on this last go-round. I know what you mean. I recently started a thread on this very board about a fairly simple declaration from the Vatican asking people of all faiths to pray for an end to the pandemic. Catholic right-extremist got all worked up because not only did the statement propose that all religions pray together but that it did not expressly excluded all religions but christianity. The Vatican should have anticipated this kind of response. The same thing happened after 9/11... there was an interfaith gathering in a stadium that had religious leaders of many faiths on the podium. A Lutheran minister suggested that all there pray together as people of faith in a time of terrible grief. Soon after, his Lutheran sect leaders kicked him to the curb because he didn't say that Christianity was the one true religion. He was - rightly - confused about his dismissal. Kinda had a big crisis of faith over it. This story, this interview with the minister, was in a PBS special program about "Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero", filmed a year after the attacks on the WTC. It is an interesting thing to watch, and though I only have it on VHS tape, one would think PBS would have a DVD available. Well worth watching. They interviewed believers of all faiths and non-believers, people who had lost someone in the attack. Edit: I was able to view that specific interview on YouTube, the Story of Rev. David Benke on Faith and Doubt at Ground Zero. I would link to it, but... I am an analog watch in a digital world, sadly.
