I "stumbled" upon this fantastic post/topic where a user has done a beautiful job of putting images from the original 1984 comic books alongside the one from the 1990 movie, and I think it is fair to say, that the 1990 film might just be one of the best and most faithful comic book movies ever made, not just the best Turtle film. Thanks for the link to that, stefancrosscoe. A lot of those comic book panels do indeed really match shots from the movie. While looking at them, I remembered the scene where April wakes up to find the turtles hovering over her and then she spots Splinter. My memory of the movie as a whole is somewhat vague now, since I haven't seen it in such a long time (I would've last watched it on video). However, I think if I did rewatch the movie now, my memories of it would come flooding back and I may well be able to remember certain scenes almost word for word (as I watched the movie many times when I was younger). One such scene would be April awakening and her reactions to the turtles/Splinter - I remember finding it pretty entertaining. I do think it will be a while before we see a movie version of the turtles that's as good as this one was.
