The title Jack's Back would lead someone getting ready to watch it without knowing the film's full story and the story of its making to think that they were about to watch a cheesy '80s slasher flick about a Jack The Ripper copycat made solely to exploit 1988's centennial of the actual Ripper slayings. It is in fact a neo- noir in which the hunt for a Jack The Ripper copycat is a parallel plot. The main plot concerns an ex-con, played by a young James Spader, setting out to solve the murder of his identical twin brother.
