How many people actually thought Nelson Mandela died in prison during the 1980s? During that time he’d be mentioned in the news quite a lot so anyone who thought he’d died instead of Steve Biko must not have been paying proper attention at the time. Well, gee, if the one about Mandela has been "debunked" then there must be nothing to the phenomenon named after him, right? Yes.
